Shooting the Z7 is pure pleasure. It balances in the hand perfectly, pulls smoothly, and at the shot is dead in the hand with zero recoil and zero torque (lateral movement)! In 2009 Mathews introduced two radical speed bows, the single cam Reezen and the dual cam Monster. The draw cycle on these two model bows is very harsh, much different then the smooth draw cycle Mathews was known for with there highly successful Switchback and Drenalin models. For 2010 Mathews has once again returned to a smooth pulling model with the Z7!

Besides a smoother pulling cam there are several other refinements on the Z7 bow over previous Mathews models. The first is a "reverse assist" roller guard in which the cable and return part of the bow string ride on the roller wheel on the side away from the riser. A very simple change with several benefits. As the Z7 is drawn the tension on the cable reduces instead of increases which smooths the draw cycle and increases arrow velocity. The reduced tension also decreases the "torque" induced to the bow from the cable guard as the bow is drawn. This reduces lateral nock travel during the shot for a easier tuning, more forgiving bow.
